The Pain of Being.. By Mente x Thanawat Tongsalee

Due to the current Covid-19 situation, we are surrounded by this pandemic which restricts and affects our daily routine. This leads to a long stop or suspension, where people are getting used to being alone in this New Normal society, which this strongly affects them. This environment forces all kinds of pain (and sickness), reaching the state of toxicity within oneself both physically and mentally. ‘Pain or Feeling of pain’ can mean the feeling that an individual has faced through their experienced, which is entirely based on each individual, however the pain we are talking about isn’t the pain that can be shown physically or causes damages on the physical body, but is the mental state and the condition of one’s mind, their processes of thoughts and behaviors. Therefore, this pain is forged through the environment that is full of stress and several problems around them, including changes in the daily life, economy or the society.

As a result, this group of artists decided to use the principle of design to portray the state of pain through different medias, under the exhibition “The Pain of Being…”. They illustrate how the external factors affects the society as an overall portraying the inner feelings of pain, relieve, healing, release and shows the perspective of the sediment of ‘pain’.

The group focuses on creating artworks that reflects inner feelings that are surrounded by external factors within the society’s frame. After exploring the ‘insides’ of MENTE’s group through the last exhibition, they have further explored the external contexts and the environment around them, leading to their idea of a 2nd exhibition. For this 2nd exhibition, Thanawat Tongsalee is invited as a guest artist to be a part to express and create a viewpoint that people can see, understand and feel; through the abstract interaction of human’s society.
